FALL TREND REPORT: STRIPES, CAPS, AND METALLIC ACCESSORIES

October 29, 2017 Jasmin Soroush
IMG_7391.JPG

You guys have probably figured by now how much I love Fall fashion. Yes, all the cold weather accessories and excuse to wear over the knee boots gives me life. But, to be completely honest, sometimes I feel in a fashion rut.

There's a formula you see on Instagram that every blogger/influencer/girl wears during this time of year and it's typically a sweater, leggings/jeans, and boots with some kind of scarf or hat (PSL usually in hand). And while I love this look and am totally guilty of sporting it as well, I get kind of bored with it which makes me SO excited to share this outfit with you guys and talk about some different yet subtle trends you can incorporate into your fall look to break away from that Insta mold.

Scroll down to see these trends, how to style, and my fav picks to shop!

1. Stripes: I'm currently really digging anything striped. I love the bold colors of this Free People sweater set I'm wearing, as it gives me 70s retro vibes (shop here).

More Picks:

  • This toned down black and white striped dress is perfect for the office (shop here)
  • This flirty, bell-sleeved top is really cute for a night out with skinny jeans (shop here)
  • Channel your inner beetle-juice with these super cozy pajama pants - pair with a strappy heel and a tucked in tee for a fresh take on a girls night out outfit (shop here)
  • Wear this colorful sweater dress with some cognac over the knee boots for chic and funky outfit to take. you into the cooler months (shop here)

2. Fisherman's Caps: I'm sure you guys have seen this Brixton Fisherman's cap I'm wearing all over your Insta feed this fall and it's for good reason (shop here). The retro style of these caps ironically gives a fresh twist to Fall hats (instead of the wool fedora), and seems to go with just about everything. This one tends to run big - I'm wearing size small and it fits perfectly.

Additional Options:

  • Experiment with colors - swap the classic black hat I'm sporting for this wool one that comes in a light grey and mustard yellow. This would look perfect with bell-bottom jeans and a mock neck sweater (shop here).
  • Attention to detail - Incorporate leather details in your outfit with a leather band on this cap. Rock this with faux leather leggings and an oversized knit sweater (shop here).
  • Play with textures - Stray away from plain old wool material and try new materials for this cap like this one that comes in denim. Pair with a plain tee tucked into a suede skirt and some booties (shop here).

3. Metallic Accessories: I really love the funky edge a pop of metallic color gives to my outfit, like with this silver and white Tory Burch cross-body bag I'm wearing (shop similar here). I. think because there's so many neutrals, dark colors, and jewel tones that go into fall fashion that having a metallic pop of color with silver or gold really adds some contrast and makes your outfit stand out.

Try these:

  • Take this pretty rose-gold metallic cross-body for a night out in place of your usual black or brown cross-body (shop here).
  • Step up your shoe game with a silver version of the slip-on Gucci dupes everyone has been wearing lately. These would look so cute with some black denim and an oversized sweater or tee for a casual day look (shop here).
  • Switch up your everyday bag you wear to work with this roomy tote in this pale gold color that would go perfect with mustard yellows, burnt oranges, deep wine reds, and rich hunter greens. Basically all the colors of your Fall wardrobe (shop here).
  • Sometimes the bag itself doesn't have to shine, but the details can. This little Sam Edelman cross-body is adorned with sparkly details and would be so cute to wear out in place of a plain cross-body with denim, dresses, whatever! (shop here) Plus it's very reminiscent of the Prada Cahier Bag which I'm actually obsessed with, and comes with a way more affordable price tag!

AUTUMN ACTIVITIES TO DO AROUND San Diego

October 22, 2017 Jasmin Soroush
IMG_4441.JPG

Fall is definitely one of my favorite seasons. Aside from the endless Fall fashion like this flowy, embroidered Free People dress I'm wearing, I love all the activities that come along with the Autumn months.

Think the Halloween horror movies, curling up on the couch with pumpkin-spiced coffee, breaking out accessories like hats and booties, pumpkin carving, and making apple cider. I wish I could add playing in the colorful leaves, and bundling up in warm sweaters to that list but unfortunately it's still ninety degrees well into October in San Diego and my air conditioner is still getting a lot of use (sigh).

But, one huge benefit of Fall time in San Diego is that there are so many cool activities around town to get you into the Fall (and Halloween) spirit! Below I've rounded up my five favorite things to do if you're in San Diego - because you need a place to wear all your Fall dresses, hats, and booties of course.

1. Bates Nut Farm (Valley Center): This is by far my favorite pumpkin patch in SD, as I go every year! They have it all - a straw maze, hay ride, petting zoo (with the CUTEST baby goats), of course a huge pumpkin patch with every different kind of pumpkin you can imagine, and tons of food vendors. They also have a huge general store where you can stock up on cute, custom decor, all the candy in the world, pumpkin flavored everything, and a specialty chocolate/fudge counter. You'll definitely spend some money here but worth it.

2. Whaley House (Old Town): The Whaley House is located in the midst of all the delicious Mexican food in Old Town, and is supposedly America's Most Haunted House. The house is very important to San Diego, as not only the Whaley family used to live there, but it was the County court house, SD's first commercial theater, and home to various businesses making it a historical landmark. Now it's a museum where you can go visit the house on a tour and hear the story of the Whaley family. I recommend going on Halloween for a fun spooky activity - their tours are open until midnight for Halloween!

3. The Fall Festival at Fort Cross Old Timey Adventures (Julian): I love visiting Julian from Fall through the Holidays because it feels like you're being transported away into a small little town from the Olden days. This Fall Festival includes a pumpkin patch, pumpkin painting, petting zoo, hayride, and cider pressing (Julian is known for their apples!). You really can't get more Fall than that. While you're up there, go walk around town for a slice of the best apple pie.

4. Hitchcocktober at the Angelika (Carmel Mountain): If you guys haven't been to the Angelika movie theaters yet, you need to go! It's a luxury movie theater with comfortable, reclining seats, a full bar, and a delicious dinner menu (I recommend the burger with a craft beer!). Aside from how fun the theater is to go to in itself, they are playing Hitchcock movies all October to get you in the Halloween spirit. I love horror movies so this is definitely a no brainer event for me.

5. Boomont Park (Mission Bay): Belmont Park is a San Diego favorite with fun rides and carnival activities right by the beach - but during October it gets transformed into Boomaunt Park for a Halloween twist. There's a pumpkin patch and crafts you can do here but my personal favorite includes all the delicious junk food like pumpkin spice funnel cake, caramel apples, and pumpkin spice lattes. Definitely going to need to put in overtime at the gym after this place.

Any cool Halloween or Fall events around San Diego I missed or I need to go check out? Let me know in the comments!

Jasmin

FALL FAVORITE: BOHO DRESSES

October 8, 2017 Jasmin Soroush
IMG_3206.JPG

One thing I love about Fall in Southern California is that the temps stay nice and comfortable to still wear dresses (my favorite) well into November! This is perfect for people like me who consider anything under 68 degrees to be considered cold enough to whip out a jacket, scarf and boots.

A trend I've seen a lot of this Fall is the bohemian inspired dress. I love the flowy silhouettes, rich patterns (lots of floral, again one of my fave's), and long sleeves on these dresses. I like to pair mine with booties to give it a seasonally appropriate style, and you're ready to go!

Scroll down to see my five favorite boho-inspired dresses for fall - and how to style them!

1. This For Love & Lemons Daphne Lace Minidress: I love the chartreuse color for fall (it reminds me of falling leaves). This would be great with some cognac suede OTK boots.

2. This Jack by BB Dakota Plaid Bell Sleeve Dress: I love this dress as it takes on the classic Fall trend of a flannel and turns it into a flirty little minidress. You can't go wrong with this and some black suede booties, paired with a black fedora hat or a fisherman cap like this Brixton one.

3. This ASTR Stella Dress: The black and wine colors mixed with the floral print gives me all the Fall feels. This would look awesome paired with some Burgundy high-heeled booties and some gold statement earrings.

4. This Spell & The Gypsy Collective Sayulita Frill Minidress: I'm obsessed with this dress and the flirty silhouette. I love how it cinches at the waist and has beautiful ruffle details throughout the sleeves and the skirt. I would wear this with black suede OTK boots, and a black fedora hat.

5. This Clayton Micah Dress: The colors in this dress are so on point for fall, it makes me want a Pumpkin Spice latte or something just looking at it! The mock neck with the flowy shape of this dress totally reminds me of something straight out of the 70s. This would look awesome paired with some flared heel, velvet booties, like these.

Leave me a comment letting me know your favorite place to shop boho-inspired dresses!

Jasmin

STYLES THAT ARE BACK IN: DENIM SKIRTS

August 16, 2017 Jasmin Soroush

One thing that I love about fashion is how styles are constantly changing and evolving, but then at the end of the day - you see most things make a come back. I love how a few years back the hippie/boho styles from the late 60's and early 70's made a comeback. Jumpsuits, bell sleeved tops, funky prints, lot of florals and oversized round sunnies just to name a few (and I'm so happy they did because these are all staples of my style I love to wear to this day).

Another recent trend I've seen everywhere this Summer is the distressed denim skirt. I remember my middle school and high school days in the 2000's when these were all the rage to wear (you, everyone you knew and their mother had one of these denim skirts from Abercrombie). It seemed like people slowly stopped wearing them though and the craze for denim mini skirts was dead for good after 2008/2009.

I personally always loved wearing them as an alternative to shorts on hot days (which is like 85% of the year living in Southern California), so you can imagine my delight when I saw them slowly being incorporated in stores and worn by influencers this past Spring and Summer. They're easy to throw on, perfect for a casual weekend outfit, and they make you look cute. Win win in my book. Scroll down to see my top 5 fave denim skirts to shop right now.

fullsizeoutput_35f.jpeg

1. This Lulu's Denim Skirt: This is a great, basic denim mini to pair with everything and anything. It even comes in a lighter wash and other colors!

2. This Express Beaded Denim Skirt: The beaded detailing on this one combined with the distressed look is so cute! Great way to dress up a basic black or white button tee.

3. This Urban Outfitters Button-Front Skirt: I love the button front details on this one and the fact that it's high waisted. Pair it with a cute crop top and you're weekend ready.

4. This Zara Embroidered Denim Skirt: I love floral and embroidered EVERYTHING. Paired on this denim mini makes it even better. I would style this with a navy and white or black and white striped tee.

5. This H&M Denim Skirt with Lacing: I love the lacing detail throughout this mini that gives it somewhat of an edge. This would be great with a tucked in tee, or a black mock-neck crop for a night out.

What are some of your guys' favorite trends that have made a comeback lately?

XO,

Jasmin
